Last Minute Holidays to Benalmadena, Costa del Sol

Benalmadena Costa is located between the resorts of Torremolinos and Fuengirola just 19km from Malaga Airport making it easy to reach by road, train or bus.

The main town itself is split into three distinctive areas all of which cater for the young and old alike. Benalmadena Pueblo is situated about 5km inland at the foot of the Sierra de Mijas Mountains and is a typical Andalucian white washed village with a very authentic ‘pueblo’ feel about it.

Arroyo de la Miel is the busier commercial and residential area of Benalmadena that separates the village from the coast and finally Benalmadena Costa with its beautiful award winning marina area and variety of beaches, restaurants and bars.

There is a regular round bus route between all three areas, as well as the RENFE train station located at Arroyo de la Miel which links the eastern Costa del Sol with Malaga and the rest of Europe.

Last Minute Benalmadena Holidays – Things to Do

Benalmadena Costa is without doubt where things happen!! There is a fantastic variety of things to do from relaxing on the beach (there is about 9km to chose from), taking a gentle stroll on the 2km stretch of Paseo Marítimo (promenade) looking at the lovely mosaic panels designed by different artists. Or just sit back and relax in one of the wonderful Chiringuito Restaurants (wooden beach restaurants) to the hiring of many water sport activities or visiting one of the many attractions found around here.

All around the pretty marina is are a wonderful selection of bars and restaurants catering for all tastes and nationalities, great for sitting back and people watching! Just across from the marina for the night owls amongst us is Solimar Plaza, better known as 24 hour square!! Where there is a great selection of pubs, clubs and the new 8 screen cinema complex.

The Marina at Benalmadena also has the Sea Life Aquarium which houses amongst other things the biggest collection of sharks in Europe! You can also visit the Paloma Park, a huge landscaped park situated near to the Castillo Bil Bil. This beautiful park has amazing gardens and a huge lake in the centre which attracts a whole host of birds. It is great for picnics or just relaxing. There are restaurants in the park and also a mini-zoo.

Just across from the park is Selwo Marina which offers a dolphinarium and penguinarium, quite unique to the Costa del Sol! Alternatively hop onto the mini-train which has pick up and drop off points all around Benalmadena Costa.

In Arroyo de al Miel there is the recently re-furbished Tivoli World with over twenty rides to choose from for the whole family. They also offer cabaret evenings with Flamenco and shows for the kids. You can find the Teleferico cable car here too; this will spirit you up the Calamorro Mountain to a level of 724 meters where, as well as the spectacular views all the way down to Gibraltar, there is a great walking trail and the chance to see some dancing horses and a bird of prey show.

Local markets in Benalmadena are a must do in Spain! The feria ground by Selwo Marina and Paloma Park is where the flea market is held every Wednesday and every Friday there is a regular market (including produce etc) with a Sunday market at Tivoli World. Markets tend to open from 9am-2pm.

Finally every Spanish town has its feria and Benalmadena is no exception. During Semana Santa (Easter Week) there are various processions around Benalmadena Pueblo. February 28th is Andalucian Day (where everything is closed) June 24-29th Arroyo de la Miel celebrates John the Baptist with a local feria and entertainment; July 16th a procession of boats leaves Benalmadena Marina in the evening to celebrate Veladilla del Carmen and in mid August Benalmadena Pueblo celebrates the Virgin on the Cross with local ferias in the village.
