These waters have free fishing for carp, black bass and barbel. There is no shade or cover, so make sure to take an umbrella and plenty of sun protection cream.
EMBALSE DEL AMADORIO
Clean fishery with low water levels. Small to mid sized carp are the target species.
Located in Guardamar del Segura. Mullet, sea bass, gilthead, palometa, tuna. Very busy during summertime with holidaymakers. May, June, October and November are good months to fish.
EMBALSE DE GUADALEST
It is a beautiful place. The free fishing is fantastic, the access is a little difficult so be ready for a long walk.
PLAYA DE SAN JUAN
Sand beach next to Alicante. Depths about 2 and 3 metres, up to 140 metres from shore.
PANTANO DE BENIARRES
A carp fishery located in a mountain area. The fishing is free.
EMBALSE DE CREVILLENTE
Located just 3km from Crevillente, it has good fishing for carp, barbel and black bass. The fishing is free.
You can get to the island by regular ferries from Santa Pola and Alicante. Gilthead, dentex, European barracuda, striped bream, sea bass. Some of the area is a nature reserve, so check the signs.
Scuba Diving in Alicante
Discover the richness of the Mediterranean sea life. Scuba Diving in Alicante is ideal because visibility in this part of the Mediterranean Sea is very good, especially further away from the coast.
Alicante province – Costa Blanca is an ideal destination for divers looking for a great family holiday with diving as the their main activity, or for those looking to make just a few dives.
Most Dive Centres are associated to International Diving Organisations. The most commonly found are: ACUC, FEDAS/CMAS, PADI and SSI.
You need Diver’s Accident Insurance before you can go diving in Spain. If you do not have one, you can get one in most dive centres. The most popular one is the RDI (Real Divers Insurance), it is valid for a year from the date you purchase it and it is valid worldwide.
Tabarca Island (Mediterranean Sea), is a perfect place for scuba diving in Alicante. Water temperature is a slightly cool 14 centigrade in the winter to a perfect for swimming 24 degrees in the summer.
Visibility is usually very good (20 to 25 meters). You need to obtain a diving permit for diving off Tabarca Island. So, ensure that this is taken care of; you’ll get passes at one of the dive centres in the area.
In case of emergencies, Spain has a good hyperbaric chamber and emergency transportation system. Foreigners are better off by calling the international emergency phone number 112 (also accessible by mobile phone), operators here speak English. In any event, remember to tell them it’s a diving accident.
Wreck Diving / Deep Diving
Divers visiting the area, and particularly those well qualified in deeper or technical diving can expect to dive at least 15 wrecks in depths of 50 to 100 metres, and with new sites being uncovered and identified each year, the technical diving in the area just gets better.
The seas here teem with marine life – conger, moray eels and grouper larger than one metre in length. There are rays, barracuda, mackerel, sea horses and squid. If you’re lucky, you might even see huge sunfish or catch schools of colourful small fishes as they dart around chasing the currents.
The area between Denia and Benidorm has many underwater caves where you can enjoy spelunking.
